At Tucuvi, we help healthcare organizations ensure every patient receives timely high-quality care, augmenting clinical teams with AI.

Our clinical-grade AI Care Management platform automates and orchestrates high-volume workflows end to end, combining autonomous AI agents—including LOLA, our Voice Clinical Agent—with workflow logic, escalation, documentation, and seamless integration into existing health system infrastructure. Built for trust and clinical reality, Tucuvi is the first Class IIb Software as a Medical Device (SaMD)–approved AI platform for Voice AI driven patient management.

Today, we support 50+ care pathways across 60+ healthcare organizations, delivering up to 80% automation of nursing workflows, >90% patient engagement, and improved clinical outcomes. We recently raised $20M in Series A funding to scale across Europe and the US.

CONTEXT

We are a mission-driven SaaS company revolutionizing healthcare through cutting-edge technology. We are positioning ourselves at the top of Clinical Conversational AI by building the first Clinical AI Agent certified as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) while growing rapidly.

As we scale, we are looking for a Director of Engineering to own and elevate our engineering organization. This is a senior leadership role that combines hands-on technical work, people management, and organizational representation.

If you are excited about building high-performing teams, staying at the absolute edge of AI-assisted engineering, and making a direct impact on how healthcare is delivered to patients worldwide, keep reading.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

This role has four core areas of ownership:

1. 👥 People Manager

You will lead and grow the engineering team at Tucuvi — from individual contributors software engineers, to tech leads and engineering managers.

  • Maintain a consistent 1:1 cadence with all your direct reports

  • Lead performance reviews and foster a continuous feedback culture

  • Ensure the team's output meets Tucuvi's high standards of quality and pace

  • Develop career paths, address underperformance early, and celebrate high achievers

  • Build a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and continuous improvement

2. 🏗️ Engineering Excellence & Hygiene

You are the guardian of how we build at Tucuvi — the person who makes the right calls on architecture, tooling, and technical strategy.

  • Own decisions on architecture, scalability, frameworks, design patterns, and developer tooling

  • Drive the adoption and mastery of AI-powered development tools — starting with Claude Code. This is non-negotiable in 2026: our entire engineering team runs on it, and it is one of our key competitive differentiators

  • Stay at the absolute edge of AI-assisted software engineering and bring the whole organisation with you

  • Enforce engineering standards: CI/CD, code quality, and regulatory compliance

  • Own and evolve our QA culture: engineering at Tucuvi owns QA: it is not a separate gate, it is embedded in how we build.

  • Bring new QA methodologies and AI-assisted QA practices into the team, improving quality and speed of testing.

  • Improve the QA developer experience — making it fast, reliable, and something engineers are proud of.

  • Ensure QA standards are aligned with our medical device regulatory requirements.

3. 💻 Hands-On Technical Contributor

This is a managerial role. However, we expect you to get your hands dirty.

  • Write and review code using Claude Code and our stack (TypeScript/JavaScript, Python)

  • Sit down with engineers and work through complex technical problems side by side

  • Shadow, mentor, or cover engineers when needed

  • Step into Solutions Engineering interactions when required, including client meetings, technical deep dives, and integration discussions with customers

4. 🎙️ Voice of Engineering

You are the engineering representative in all key company forums.

  • Represent the engineering team at the betting table of our Shape-up methodology.

  • Participate actively in management meetings and keep engineering priorities aligned with company strategy

  • Be ready to speak to customers and investors if needed — clearly articulating our technical vision, reliability, and roadmap

  • Bridge the gap between engineering realities and business expectations

What to expect during your first months with us

During your first month:

You'll immerse yourself in our engineering processes, team dynamics, and codebases. You'll engage with every team member to understand gaps in onboarding and training, assess our QA strategy, and map out immediate improvements to our CI/CD pipelines. You'll also begin establishing your 1:1 rhythm with your reports.

By the end of month three:

You'll have rolled out a pilot training program, defined a clear QA framework, and delivered visible improvements to our CI/CD processes. You'll have proposed architectural optimisations for our real-time, high-availability systems . By then, you'll already be a trusted voice at the management table.

After 6-12 months:

You'll have built a well-structured, high-performing engineering organisation with:

  • A robust onboarding process that scales with the team

  • QA strategies with measurable goals embedded across the engineering team

  • A thriving CI/CD culture with faster deployments and fewer issues

  • A clear career path framework co-designed with the People Team

  • A strong AI-native engineering culture and a team that truly owns quality

  • Scalable architectures handling real-time, high-recurrency workloads efficiently

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team leadership: 1:1s, performance reviews, career development, underperformance management, feedback culture

  • Technical architecture: Centralise decisions on architecture, scalability, frameworks, and tooling

  • AI-native engineering: Drive adoption of AI-powered dev tools (Claude Code specifically); stay at the edge of AI-assisted engineering

  • Engineering standards: CI/CD, code quality, regulatory compliance

  • QA ownership: Embed QA into the engineering culture, bring in new methodologies, align with medical device regulatory requirements

  • Hands-on contribution: Write and review code, work through technical problems directly with engineers

  • Solutions Engineering support: Step into client meetings, technical deep dives, customer integrations when needed

  • Cross-functional representation: Be engineering's voice at the management table, Shape-up betting table, and externally with customers/investors.

WITH WHOM YOU WILL WORK

You will work and report directly to Marcos (CTO & Co-Founder). And whereas we are a remote-first company, no one here works alone. So you’ll also work closely with Elena Pavía, Chief of Staff of the CTO, as well as Tarek, Rebeca, Piter, Gerardo, and the whole engineering team.

REQUIREMENTS

Must-haves

  1. Technical Expertise

    • Hands-on coding background and genuine mastery of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code or equivalent): fluency, not just curiosity

    • Proven track record designing and scaling low-latency, high-availability architectures

    • Strong grasp of CI/CD and compliance in regulated environments

    • Familiarity with our stack: Voice AI, Python, TypeScript, LiveKit, GCP, Kubernetes

  2. Leadership & People Management

    • Demonstrated ability to build and scale engineering teams both ICs and managers

    • Experience with performance management, career development frameworks, and cross-functional alignment

    • Exceptional communication skills to inspire teams and represent engineering credibly to customers and investors

  3. AI-Native Mindset

    • Genuine enthusiasm for and operational mastery of AI coding tools

    • Proven ability to drive organisational adoption of new development practices and tooling

  4. Communication

    • Fluent in Spanish and English

    • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills

  5. Location

    • Based in Spain or within a compatible timezone

Extra ball for bonus points

  1. Prior experience with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) or similarly regulated industries

  2. Hands-on experience with multi-tenant, high-scale SaaS at very low latency

  3. Familiarity with budgeting, vendor management, and strategic planning at Director/VP level

  4. Experience with Azure (our primary stack is GCP/Kubernetes, but Azure familiarity is a plus)
