Devengo is a startup focused on a simple but ambitious mission: to make finance a fairer place. Founded by well-known fintech players Fernando Cabello-Astolfi and Alberto Molpeceres. Their first product is a scalable and simple API that allows any company, big or small, to send and receive instant payments. A business bank account you can programmatically use in real-time. They have invested the last three years in discovering many ways of making Salary Advance that don't work and pivoted to focus on instant payments. They are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join their team, embrace their vision, create life-improving services for companies, and help expand beyond the EU. Tu evolución (Onboarding and growth):- You'll be assigned an onboarding buddy to guide you through the process.- Meet all the Devengers and learn how you’ll work with them.- Set up local environments and understand main components.- Attend Devengo Academy sessions and ship initial changes to production.- First 1-on-1 with the CTO. Tus responsabilidades:- Participarás de todo el ciclo de creación de software, de la exploración y diseño al desarrollo y el despliegue, haciéndote responsable de principio a fin.- Romperás grandes piezas funcionales en tareas más pequeñas, estimando de manera pragmática la duración y el alcance de las mismas.- Desarrollarás código robusto y mantenible con su correspondiente cobertura de tests.- Pasarás un tiempo cada mes ayudando al equipo de OPS para conseguir una comprensión más profunda del producto y su complejidad operacional.- Harás peer review del trabajo de tus compañeros asegurándote de aprender de ellos y de que generais un trabajo de máxima calidad. Cómo lo harás (Process, culture, tech):- Practices merging Kanban and Scrum with a focus on Continuous Delivery.- 2-week sprints; Product and Tech define and prioritize tasks; work visualized in Jira.- Developers freely pick tasks; daily meetings for status, blockers, and next steps.- Values: finesse, grace and pragmatism, fairness and empathy, freedom and autonomy.- Architecture moving from classic Rails to a modular monolith, borrowing Clean Code/Hexagonal ideas; multiple APIs and real-time financial integrations.- CI/CD at the core; custom pipelines. Communication mainly async via Slack; biweekly all-hands and per-team dailies. Horario (Schedule):- Flexible workday to reconcile personal life and work.- Daily sync after lunch (14:00–15:00 CEST). Be available at least 12:00–16:00.- Typical availability spans 06:00–21:00. Dónde (Location):- This position is 100% remote; candidates should be in a UTC ±2 hours timezone for easier scheduling.- Quarterly offsites for in-person interaction. Qué piden (Requirements):- You can communicate well in English, both orally and in writing.- Good understanding of software principles (you’ll work with Ruby; experience in other languages welcome).- Familiar with TDD/best practices (SOLID, design patterns, testing).- Experience deploying applications in production.- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.- Value a solid test suite and write many tests.- Clear communication and strong listening skills.- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work with little supervision. Must-have technical knowledge:- 4+ years developing backend software (Ruby, Python, JS, PHP, Java, Go, or any mainstream language).- Code quality focused on automated testing.- Experience designing and using relational databases.- Experience creating and consuming REST APIs.- Good written and spoken English. Nice-to-haves:- Hexagonal/Clean architecture and DDD.- Experience with Ruby/Rails.- Experience with common AWS services (S3, EC, CloudFront, etc.).- Experience using Continuous Integration (currently using Travis).- Experience in fintech.
